GEOWEB® Slope Protection System helps hold native sand in place on steep 2:1 mountainside cut slopes
The Mountain View Water Tank Replacement project in Minden, Nevada, required more than new potable water storage tanks. Before construction could begin, the mountainside site had to be cut back to create a level pad for the tanks. The grading left behind exposed 2:1 slopes, approximately 33 feet vertical, where native sand was at risk of moving before vegetation could take hold.
To help protect and stabilize the newly graded slopes, the project team used approximately 42,000 square feet of the GEOWEB® Soil Stabilization System with native sand infill. Installed in late 2025, the system provided immediate surface stabilization and helped prepare the slopes for hydroseeding to establish vegetation.

After the mountainside was cut back to create a level tank pad, the project team needed to stabilize exposed native sand on steep 2:1 slopes. The sandy material was vulnerable to surface movement before vegetation could establish, creating potential concerns with erosion, rilling, sediment movement, and ongoing maintenance around the new tank site.
The finished slope also needed to maintain the natural appearance of the surrounding Nevada terrain. The project required a solution that could provide immediate stabilization while supporting hydroseeding and long-term vegetation growth.
The GEOWEB Slope Protection System was installed to create a confined surface layer for the native sand. The 3D cellular structure helps hold infill in place across the slope, reducing the potential for material to shift or migrate downslope.
